England the West Country-Somerset, Devon and Cornwall
Information about Somerset, Devon and Cornwall
England's southwest, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, have a gulf
Stream-warmed climate making it mild even in winter, with beaches,
exciting villages and a cove-dotted coastline, where spring comes early.
The county of Somerset has everything for the visitor. The rolling hills
of Exmoor, a beautiful coastline and wonderful beaches. It is also the
place of the King Arthur legend and is steeped in history.
You might stop at Exeter, in
Devon, for a look at its Cathedral (there's a Devon Motel at Alphington), or
at fashionable a sea resort town that became famous from John Cleese
and his comedy TV series Faulty towers. Here you will be surprised by subtropical plants,
even palms. See lush green Plymouth, from whose harbour both Drake and the
Pilgrims sailed to make history. The last, most western and southern end of
the island is Cornwall, with Land's End. Along its north coast with its
quaint little hamlets lies Tintagel, with its memories of King Arthur. Don't
miss the Cornish pasties. Another nice city to visit is Bath.
