Millennium Dome

The Millennium Dome near Greenwich is the largest single structure in the UK with 320 meters in diameter and 50 meters in height . The Millennium Dome was designed by the architect Richard Rogers, who also designed the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. The hall is used as a concert hall with a capacity of 20,000 visitors .The entire structure is supported by twelve poles of steel,100 metres each and held in position by a series of ropes and cables of high resistance with a the length of more than 70 kilometres.
The centre of the building houses a vast arena previously conceived as open space but now protected by a cover Fiberglas and Teflon. Built and designed on the basic concept of lightness, economy and speed of construction, The O2 was precisely designed in a very short period, from June 1997 until the beginning of 1999 for about 15 months. The foundations of the structure were laid with the provision of eight thousand pillars.
