The Cyclades are a group of islands in the Aegean sea. The name Cyclades
derives from the Greek Kikládhes (circular) because of the formation of
the island Group
The Cyclades have a long history that starts from the late Neolithic and
early bronze age (3000BC) relics of the first marble statues from the
Cycladic civilization are to be found at the Archaeological museum of
Athens.
In the Myth of Theseus we can see the relation of the Cyclades with the
Minoan civilization of Crete as Theseus takes Ariadne the daughter of
King Minos of Crete to Naxos after he kills Minotaurus and liberates the
Athenian hostages of King Minos
Since the end of the 60's many of the Cyclades island have become th most
popular destinations for international tourists.The islands of Mykonos
,Santorini ,Paros, Naxos and Ios are the main target of package tourism.
One of the main reasons that have promote the tourism in the Cyclades
are the unique sandy beaches but talkink frankly the tousim boom started
when world famous celebrities start visiting the island of Myconos from
the early 60's
The main island of the Perfecture of Cyclades is Syros with its capital
Ermoupolis ,the island group consists from the islands of Amorgos, Anafi,
Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea or Tzia, Kimolos, Kythnos, Mílos, Mykonos,
Naxos, Paros, Pholegandros, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Syros, Tinos, and
Santorini .
