General information. The capital of Patmos is Scala
and is the biggest settlement on Patmos. Scala has a picturesque
small port with cafes , restaurants,and any kind of shops. There is
a variety of clubs ,bars, and cafes that make a very interesting

Skala, the port of Patmos, the first thing that will strike you,
high on the hill, is the Byzantine fortified monastery of St. John
with the town of Patmos (Hora) nestling at its feet. Inside the
fortress you will find the medieval church of the Virgin Mary with
its beautiful 12th century religious wall paintings. The monastery
houses an interesting library of old books, essays and parchments
relating to the monastery. A small distance from Hora you can visit
the Cave of the Apocalypse where it is said St John wrote the Book
of Revelations. Patmos also has one of the most important
theological schools, which was built in 1713 AD, and is where many
of the leaders of the Orthodox church have studied.The capital Scala
connected with the other villages of the island by bus and taxis and
small boats make daily trips nearby islands and remote beaches of
Patmos. Here you can buy beautiful linen embroideries from Patmos
and hand- made textiles with traditional patterns. There are also
several kinds of local dairy products and traditional desserts from
scala you can travel to the other

Kos Kasos and others Kambos is a rural village about 5,5 kilometers away from the port of Scala, Kambos is built on a sandy coastline and has small white houses . It is one of the unspoiled pieces of land and is inhabited by farmers and fishermen that live next to each other. There are many taverns in the village square and along the beach and there is a small supermarket where you can buy anything. Shady pine and tamarisk trees plus deckchairs along the beach of Kambos offer to the visitors all the comfort ,water sports are also available. Kambos is connected with the port by bus and taxis throughout the day. There are two football fields and one basketball court on the island.
