Kos conferences
As
part of the effort to upgrade its tourism, since 1996 Kos has been a
member of the European Network "Federation of Conference Towns"
seeking a share not only of the domestic market in so-called Congress
Tourism but also of the international market.
Being the birthplace of the father of medicine himself, Hippocrates,
during that same year it organized the 1st Medical Olympiad worldwide in
parallel with the 35th Medical History Congress at the International
Hippocrates Foundation on Kos which has a congress centre, Hippocratic
Library and Medical Museum. The Foundation is located near the Asklepion.
Overall Kos has around 8,000 congress seats many of which are scattered
between its large hotel complexes. Kos has a satisfactory infrastructure
in conjunction with a charming natural environment, mild climate
conditions and ease of access by air thus rendering it an ideal location
for congress tourism.95
