Crete is the largest and most famous Greek island. Birth place of El Greco and many other Great Greek writers like Nikos Kazantzakis and Politicians like Eleftherios Venizelos. Crete according the Mythology was the birth place of Zeus. On the island of Crete bloomed the Minoan civilization witch remains are to be seen at the Palaces of Knossos and Festos.

Crete situated on the southern tip of the Aegean Sea. The coastline presents profound geographical formations, giving Crete over 700 miles of coastline. Crete's terrain is mostly mountainous and plains constitute a small percentage of its territory. Among these the most important is the plain Messaria in the central zone. Crete is located approximately 160 km south of the Greek mainland. Crete is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Greece. Every year millions of tourists visit the island of Crete making Crete the most visited by tourists island of Greece. This increase in tourism has as a result an enormous increase in Hotels and other accommodations on the island.

Today, the tourism infrastructure in Crete satisfy all kind of preferences from large luxury hotels with all the facilities like swimming pools, conference centers and recreational sport facilities, to smaller family-owned apartments, pensions, rooms and self catering apartments . Visitors can reach the island by Crete's two international airports one in Heraklio and one in Chania, and by ferries to Heraklio, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos and sitia. Crete is the largest island in Greece and the second largest of the eastern Mediterranean sea after Cyprus .

The main city and Port of Crete is Heraklion with its Venetian Castle at the port. Other cities are Rethymno ,Chania ,Agios Nikolaos ,Ierapetra ,Sitia and many small villages and tourist resorts. Crete is the garden of Greece with the biggest production of Olives ,Tomatoes and Oranges.The island has a very developed economy and is one of the most rich areas of Greece. Crete with more then 300 days of sunshine has a lot of attractions that makes the island as one of the most visited in the Mediterranean. Crete has daily air connections to Athens and other European cities ,the super luxury Cretan Ferries of ANEK and MINOAN LINES connect daily not only Crete with Piraeus but Greece with Italy as well from Patras and Igumenitsa.
